After the construction and consecration of the new church in Jaun in 1910, the old church no longer had a purpose. The building was in danger of becoming a ruin. Until a tourist made the municipality an offer of 15,000 in 1972. A memorable community and parish meeting prevented the sale by a narrow majority. It was high time to finally take care of the building. After a 20-year planning phase, the decision was made in favour of CANTOrama, the ‘House of Song’. Concerts have been held there regularly since 1992.
Since then, Jaun has offered a varied programme for classical music lovers in addition to the local folk events. Many visitors are surprised by the wide range of events on offer in the small mountain village.
The concert hall's varied programme ranges from classical vocal and instrumental works from the Renaissance to the modern era, as well as regional folk music and folklore. A major highlight every summer is the International Folklore Festival. Groups from all over the world travel to Jaun for an evening and bring their culture a little closer to the small mountain village.
